A message to all our friends and users of Rotweilermaps.
Rotweilermaps has ceased operations and is closing our website.
We started mapping in 2002 as a result of our horrible experiences with the then available GPS maps of SE Asia. Our first full map of Thailand was published in 2005, followed shortly thereafter by a map of Cambodia.
The website was created after we found our maps being sold (on CD) at Pan Tip Plaza in Bangkok.
By 2015, maps of Thailand and the rest of SE Asia were starting to improve - both those from commercial sources and those created by hobbyists. And the commercial maps were also getting much cheaper.
In 2015-2016 we spent thousands of hours of driving, recording, and mapping wherever in Laos we could get - and substantially improved our map of that nation. We still consider it the absolutely best map of Laos available from any source.
Over the years, we encountered both positive and negative feedbacks from the GPS community. For the most part, our users were very pleased with the maps. But sometimes we just sat and shook out heads when supposedly reputable companies involved in the GPS mapping business began copying our POIs, streets, and in one case, the entire map!
By early 2017 it became obvious that although our maps of Laos and Cambodia were very good, there was little interest in them. It was also obvious that the commercially-available maps of Thailand had reached maturity and were also getting much cheaper - with one company giving them away free!
Our hobby is mapping, and we use the maps we create. We will continue to improve our maps of Laos, Cambodia and Thailand - for our own use.
We thank all of you for your support over the years and wish you safe motoring - Happy GPS'ing!
